(26/07/23) KISMAYO -The long-standing political dispute in the Gedo region, which has been ongoing for nearly four years, has been officially resolved, according to the Deputy President of Jubaland, Mohamud Sayid Adan. Speaking with the BBC Somali Service, Adan noted that the recently appointed Jubaland administration for the Gedo region has received endorsement from former regional officials who had previously held differing views.
Currently based in the Dolow district, Vice President Adan disclosed that a consensus was reached prior to his departure from Kismayo. “Regional administrative officials, security forces, the public, and intellectuals have agreed to resolve the disagreement and renew their cooperation with the Jubaland administration,” the Deputy President asserted.
Adan further revealed that an agreement was reached during a final event held on Tuesday, which included consensus with Governor Anjeh and the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein, both of whom are high-ranking regional administration officials previously at odds with the Kismayo-based administration.
The Deputy President affirmed that the newly appointed administration will assume regular operations in the region, taking over responsibilities from the former incumbents.
