(14/07/23) GEDO – Jubaland’s Darwish forces and Alshabab terrorists engaged in fighting on Thursday night in Gedo, according to a report from the region. The encounter occurred when Jubaland forces attacked Alshabab militants in Gerileey, where they effectively gained control of the village.
Battlefield reports indicate that the confrontation was violent, where heavy weapons were used. However, there were no casualties reported as of yet, and according to the residents in the village, Jubaland troops successfully took control of Gerileey.
Following the withdrawal of Kenyan troops from the ATMIS army at the end of last month, Al Shabab terrorists have engaged in heavy fighting in the region for the second time. Kenyan troops had been stationed there for over a decade.
Gerileey village is considered vital for the movement of both goods and people between the Gedo region and other regions in Jubaland.
