(25/07/23) MUGADHISHU – Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ahmed Madoobe Nuur, briefed the media on the agenda of the United Nations Food Systems Summit, which was held in Roma, Italy, on July 23–25, 2023. Twenty countries, including Somalia, attended the meeting.
The summit was jointly opened by Mr. António Guterres, General Secretary of the United Nations, and Ms. Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy.
The main focus of the meeting was the food shortage at the global, national, and regional levels. The summit’s agenda included finding sustainable solutions for the world’s food shortage, helping developing countries that are struggling with food scarcity due to the Ukraine-Russia war and climate change, and providing answers regarding the level of food shortage on a global level.
“This is the second UN Food System Summit, and it’s three days long,” Mr. Madoobe Nuur said. “The meeting’s anticipated results include creating strong cooperation between participating countries by increasing food production in order to solve the world food shortage, as well as for international organizations such as the UN to play a critical role in the elimination of food shortages that can lead to hunger, loss of life, and displacement, and to establish a fund that will cover these costs.”
