(28-08-23) DHUSAMAREB — Communities across several cities in Galmudug Federal State have taken to the streets on Monday to show their support for the ongoing military offensive against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. The cities of Galkayo, Guriceel, Aabudwaq, and Balanble were among those where demonstrations were held.
The protests aim not only to voice support for the first phase of the anti-Al-Shabaab campaign but also to show unity with the Somali National Army Forces. These military units have been instrumental in liberating numerous districts and villages in the eastern region of Galgaduud, including the significant and historic district of Elbur.
Ali Mohamed, a resident of Galkayo, said, “This is a strong message to Al-Shabaab that we stand united against terror. It’s also a sign to our brave soldiers that we are with them in every step they take to reclaim our lands and bring peace.”
The Somali National Army Forces have made significant strides in the fight against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the Galgaduud region. Recent operations have focused on liberating districts and villages, with the notable recapture of the historic district of Elbur.
General Ahmed Nur, a senior military officer, commented, “The public’s support is an invaluable asset in our fight against Al-Shabaab. Their voices amplify our cause and strengthen our resolve. We will continue our operations until we eradicate this menace from our land.”
The demonstrations across Galmudug come at a crucial time, as the Somali government and its allies ramp up efforts to quell the terrorist threat once and for all. The public’s display of support has invigorated the ongoing military campaigns and signals a renewed hope for lasting peace in the region.
