(27-08-23) DHUSAMAREB — Galmudug State, has initiated an extensive school rebuilding project in its recent efforts to restore stability and normalcy to areas once under Al-Shabab control. The towns of Galcad, Ceel Dheer and Haradere, in particular, are in focus, with educational facilities being prioritised for reconstruction.
The announcement came on Sunday when the region’s Education Minister, Mohamed Hashi Dore, addressed journalists, emphasising the vital importance of education in the broader project of community rebuilding and resistance against radicalisation.
“It’s deeply troubling to see the impact of Al-Shabab’s actions on our educational infrastructure,” Minister Dore said. “However, our resolve is only strengthened. In reconstructing these schools, we’re not just restoring buildings – we’re laying the foundation for a brighter, more stable future for Galmudug.”
Apart from the physical rebuilding of schools, the initiative also acknowledges the pressing need for emergency educational resources, teacher incentives, training, and the provision of essential learning materials. The aim is to ensure that the children of Galcad, Haradhere and Ceel Dheer, many of whom have witnessed conflict and instability firsthand, have access to quality education.
“Rebuilding these towns isn’t a job for one, but for all. Together, we’ll not only construct schools but also forge a path towards stability and prosperity. We’re committed to facing these challenges head-on and ensuring every child has access to a promising educational future,” added Minister Dore.
The project represents a beacon of hope for the residents of Galmudug State, symbolising the government’s commitment to reclaiming a sense of security, hope, and progress. By prioritising education, the state sends a powerful message about its vision for the future – one where knowledge triumphs over extremism.
