(02/08/23) MOGADISHU – The director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA), Mahad Salad, has embarked on a visit to Dhusamareb on Tuesday, the capital city of Galmudug, for a series of confidential discussions.
Reliable sources confirmed to Halqabsi News that Mr. Salad, a native of Galmudug and former member of parliament, spent the night in Dhusamareb and convened a meeting with Gallmudug President, Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor. The discussions centred around the prevailing situation in the country, with a specific focus on the ongoing fight against the Al-Shabaab extremist group in the Galgaduud and Mudug regions.
According to these sources, Mr. Salad’s visit is expected to set the stage for an impending visit by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud next week, whose presence will mark the initiation of the second phase in the war against Al-Shabaab. The city has consequently seen a notable boost in security, with the mobilisation of additional military and security forces to ensure the President’s safety.
It is projected that President Mohamud will remain in Galmudug for a substantial period, overseeing liberation operations in the central regions. The strategic goal of this phase is to extricate Al-Shabaab from Galmudug and HirShabelle, before proceeding southwards towards Jubbaland and the South West, where the extremist group maintains significant strength.
Somalia is currently engaged in an intensifying war against Al-Shabaab, a battle that is now entering its second phase and set to include the involvement of neighbouring countries.
