(22-08-23) DHUSAMAREB President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired a meeting in Dhusamareb on Monday to deliberate on reinforcing the ongoing military campaign against Al-Shabaab. In attendance were Galmudug’s traditional elders, the region’s leadership, including President Ahmed Abdi Kariye ‘Qorqor’, influential politicians, and intellectuals.
President Mohamud emphasised the importance of regional community leaders amplifying their efforts to free the region from Al-Shabaab’s grip. The meeting came as combined forces from the Somali National Army (SNA) and local units progress towards the strategic town of El Bur in the Galgaduud region. The need for mine-clearance operations has hampered the mission to reclaim El Bur, with reports suggesting that Al-Shabaab extensively mined the area to impede the advancing troops.
