(02/08/23) BARAWE – South West Security Minister, Hassan Abdulkadir Mohamed, led a delegation to Barawe, the administrative capital of South West State, on Wednesday. Joined by the Ministers of Religious Affairs and Public Works, the ministerial visit sought to evaluate the town’s overall situation and boost backing for the forthcoming second phase of the offensive against Al-Shabaab.
In his remarks at Barawe, Minister Mohamed disclosed that preparations for the South West State’s participation in the country-wide second phase of the offensive against Al-Shabaab are nearing completion. Accordingly, his visit to the state’s principal districts aimed to mobilise both the Somali National Army (SNA) and local forces. Concurrently, the Ministry of Religious Affairs plans to initiate religious awareness campaigns in the town. Moreover, the Public Works Ministry is set to construct new governmental offices, further bolstering the town’s administrative infrastructure.
Minister Mohamed lauded the combined efforts of the South West security forces, the SNA, and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), praising their determination in maintaining Barawe’s security and holding the Al-Shabaab threat at bay.
