(04-09-23) MOGADISHU — Defence Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur addressed units of the Somali National Army while in the front-line areas on Monday. The Minister paid special attention to the 27th Brigade of Abu Dujanah, stationed in the eastern part of the Galgadud region.
“United, we are resolute in our mission to liberate our country from Al-Shabaab. Together, we shall prevail,” Minister Nur told the troops. He aimed to uplift their spirits in the ongoing fight against extremist elements. “I am not just here to uplift your spirits; I am here to fight alongside you,” the Minister added passionately.
This visit comes at a sensitive time for Nur, who has faced criticism from both politicians and the public over the handling of the recent Cowsweyne attack. Critics have questioned the Ministry’s preparedness and response mechanisms in ensuring the country’s safety.
By staying on the front lines, the government appears to be making a public statement about its commitment to defeating Al-Shabaab and other extremist factions threatening Somalia’s stability. “We are here to show that our mission is far from over and that every soldier is an essential part of that mission,” Minister Nur further stated.
