(28-09-23) DHUSAMAREB —Somali forces intercepted two car bombs headed for Dhusamareb, capital city of Galmudug State, on Thursday, according to government officials. The foiled attack comes amid intensified military preparations against the Al-Shabab extremist group in the area over the last two months.
Both vehicles were stopped and safely destroyed on the outskirts of Dhusamareb, where President Hassan Sheikh is currently stationed with top military and intelligence officials. The efforts are part of a broader campaign to combat Al-Shabab activities in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle states. No casualties among security forces were reported.
The foiled attack follows a close call two weeks ago, when a bomb-laden car detonated roughly 300 meters from a guest house occupied by Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye and his team. Lawmaker Abdisalam Haji Dhabancad and Senator Abdi Hassan Qaybdid sustained minor injuries in the incident. President Kariye later stated in a video message that an Al-Shabab assault on the village of Las-Ga’amey had been successfully repelled.
