(21-09-23) MOGADISHU — Hundreds of heavily armed Mawisley troops were deployed in the village of Qawl, in Hiran region, this Thursday. This deployment marks the onset of the final stages of the first phase in the ongoing offensive against the militant group, Al-Shabaab in Hirshabelle and Galmudug states.
The mission has the objective of liberating key areas along the Shabelle River, which have been under Al-Shabaab’s influence. Elder Mohamed Wehliye Sabriye, a prominent figure in the Hawadle community, issued an unambiguous directive to the troops.
“We are engaged in a holy war, and this jihad is fully justified. Somalia is indeed in a state of jihad today. The climate of fear and any potential support for Al-Shabaab must be completely eradicated,” Sabriye stated.
Farah Jimale, an officer in the Mawisley army, spoke at the scene, expressing unity in purpose. “We are united in our objective to free ourselves and our nation from the scourge of Al-Shabaab,” he declared.
Jimale further elaborated on the mission, indicating that troops aim to oust Al-Shabaab from areas surrounding the Shabelle River. “Our mission will take us to the white rock in the Hiran region and beyond the river, in order to ensure the area’s safety,” he added.
Hiran has long served as a focal point in the resistance against Al-Shabaab. Following discussions between President Hassan and key politicians of the Hawadle community, this new phase of military action signals a renewed resolve to tackle the insurgency head-on.
