(01-09-23) LAS ANOD – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited over 300 detainees in Las Anod for the first time on Thursday, following recent clashes between the Somaliland army and SSC Khatumo forces.
The visits are aimed at ensuring humane treatment of detainees from both sides and informing families of their loved ones’ whereabouts. Pascal Cuttat, the head of the ICRC delegation in Somalia, emphasised the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law.
In collaboration with the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS), the ICRC delivered essential items like blankets and mattresses and facilitated the transfer of four wounded detainees to Qaran Hospital in Garowe.
As the conflict continues, both the ICRC and SRCS are actively supporting medical facilities and helping families locate their missing relatives.
