(27-0-23) GALKAY0 – The Puntland military court has handed down sentences to three Al-Shabaab militants following a thorough trial. Ismail Da’ud Jirow Harfaaney received a 30-year jail term, Mohamed Deeq Salad Abdi was given 20 years, while Abdulkadir Abukar Sheikh Mohamed will serve 15 years in prison.
These individuals were convicted of a range of offences, including orchestrating explosive attacks and assassinations in the town of Galkayo, Mudug region. Additionally, investigations revealed their affiliations with other Al-Shabaab operatives in Galkayo, some of whom were previously executed by firing squad or are currently in detention serving extended sentences.
Some relatives of the victims expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, contending that the punishment was too lenient, having hoped for the imposition of the death penalty against the convicts
