(28-09-23) HARARDHERE — Local forces in Harardhere, Mudug region, foiled an Al-Shabaab scheme to plant explosives on roads, according to an official Ministry of Information statement on Thursday. Two militants were swiftly neutralised during a routine patrol in western Harardhere, and images were later released through government media.
The operation also saw three additional Al-Shabaab members injured by a group of recently terminated security guards. The local forces succeeded in disarming and removing several other landmines from the affected roadway.
This action comes a day after a 17-year-old was apprehended for allegedly scouting roadways on behalf of Al-Shabaab. Harardhere has been under governmental control since January, following a 15-year rule by the militant group.
Despite recent losses and territory reduction, Al-Shabaab continues to pose a security threat with sporadic attacks and road sabotages, warning that their disruptive capacity remains a concern.
