(16-09-23) MOGADISHU — On Saturday, the United Nations Special Representative, Catriona Laing, marked her presence at the inauguration of the first Somali National ID Conference. The landmark event was organised by the National Identification & Registration Authority (NIRA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Federal Affairs & Reconciliation and coordinated closely with the office of the Prime Minister.
SRSG Laing praised the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) for spearheading this notable initiative and underscored the potential of the National ID system in bolstering good governance and propelling both private and financial sector growth.
Additionally, she appealed to the FGS and international development allies to persist in their endeavours to deploy the National ID, stressing a comprehensive and inclusive execution.
