(15-09-23) MOGADISHU — A pre-dawn suicide car bomb on Friday targeted a camp hosting the President of Galmudug, military officials, and members of the Somali parliament in the village of Las Gacamey, Mudug region, early on Friday. Official sources confirm the devastating blast led to casualties, including seven deaths and multiple injuries.
General Mohamed Nur Ali Gadaar, the commander of the Galmudug Dervish army, verified to the media that seven soldiers from the Galmudug presidential guard were killed, and an additional 10 were injured. Notably, key figures, including the President of Galmudug, were left unscathed.
Residents from the nearby village of Wisil described the explosion as “strong.” Senator Abdi Qaybdid sustained a minor injury due to a rock falling from his house during the blast. Ambassador Dhabancad revealed that he suffered a slight hand injury following the house’s collapse. Both lawmakers have been airlifted to Mogadishu for medical treatment.
Responsibility for the heinous act was swiftly claimed by the Al-Shabaab terrorist group, adding yet another layer of complexity to Somalia’s already fragile governance structures and raising further questions about security measures in the Mudug region.
Undeterred by the attack, Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kaariye Qoorqoor, who has spent 19 days on the front lines, vowed to continue efforts to liberate the region from Al-Shabaab control.
