(28-10-23) BAIDOA — — A high-ranking delegation led by Defence Minister Abdullkadir Mohamed Nur and Southwest State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagaren arrived in the Bay region’s Diinsoor District on Saturday, signalling a strengthened, coordinated effort to combat regional terrorism, according to a Ministry of Defence statement.
The visit met with a warm reception from both community members and local administration, underscoring the government’s commitment to a unified approach to tackling insurgent activities. The Ministry of Defence’s statement emphasized, “Victory is near,” hinting at an impending escalation in military operations.
President Laftagaren’s journey is reportedly part of a broader agenda to speed up the second phase of an operation designed to “free the country from evildoers,” the official statement said. Alongside the defence minister, the delegation also included the Minister of Planning and other key officials, highlighting the multifaceted approach being taken not only to enhance security but also to address developmental needs in the area.
Local administrators and community leaders welcomed the delegation, expressing hope that the high-profile visit would catalyse action on not only security matters but also other pressing issues in the Diinsoor District.
The arrival in Diinsoor comes amid an uptick in extremist activities, particularly in the Bay and Bakool regions. The coordinated efforts between the national and regional authorities are viewed as a significant step in the ongoing struggle against insurgency.
