(23-10-23) MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre of the Federal Republic of Somalia welcomed the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Karin Johansson, in a significant meeting at his office on Wednesday. The gathering aimed to fortify the growing relationship between Somalia and the European Union, particularly in key areas such as security, social services, and economic development.
Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre expressed his gratitude to the European Union for the multifaceted support extended to Somalia. “The partnership we have with the European Union is invaluable. We look forward to enhancing our cooperation, especially in crucial areas such as security, stabilization, social services, and economic growth,” stated the Prime Minister.
Ambassador Johansson reiterated the EU’s commitment to Somalia, underscoring its ongoing role in the stabilization program of regions recently liberated from Al-Shabaab. “The European Union will continue to stand by Somalia and play a pivotal role in aiding the areas that are now free from Al-Shabaab,” she confirmed.
The meeting comes at a critical time, with both parties recognising the urgency of fortifying the Somali state’s institutions as part of a broader effort to stabilise the country and improve the lives of its citizens.
