(14/11/23) MOGADISHU – The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Salah Ahmed Jama, accompanied by a high-level delegation, on Tuesday arrived in Baidoa. This visit is crucial in assessing the severe impact of the floods triggered by the autumn rains associated with El Nino.
The Deputy Prime Minister, collaborating closely with the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), charity representatives, aid agencies and international allies, embarked on an insightful tour of the affected regions. He paid special visits to refugee camps and interacted with those who had endured significant damage and displacement due to the relentless rains.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, DPM Jama conducted strategic meetings with Abdiazis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, the President of the South West State, and various organisations actively involved in relief efforts. His message was clear and firm, a unified approach is paramount in addressing the immediate needs of the flood-affected population and in mitigating potential waterborne diseases.
In an impassioned appeal, the Deputy Prime Minister reached out to the Somali community, particularly entrepreneurs and the Somali diaspora, urging them to rally support for their fellow citizens in these trying times. This call to action underscores the collective responsibility and solidarity needed to navigate through this natural calamity.
