(04/11/23) MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance for Banadir Region, Ise Mohamud Guure, launched a pivotal data collection workshop in Mogadishu on Saturday.
The Banadir Regional Administration-led workshop aims to train participants in detailed data collection, a critical component for addressing the region’s specific conflict challenges. Ahmed Mohamed Asair, Stabilisation and Reconciliation Coordinator, underscored the essential role of comprehensive data in devising strategies suitable for Banadir’s unique situation.
Speaking at the event, Chief Technical Specialist of UNDP Somalia, Amjad Bhatti, detailed the Somali Conflict Navigator project’s ambition to scientifically map the fundamental drivers of conflict across Somalia, thus enabling the development of knowledgeable and actionable peacebuilding measures.
Arnold Njogu from Surge Data Hub educated the participants on the essential principles and practices for effective conflict data gathering.
Fiqi highlighted the importance of recognising the varying conflict scenarios across different regions to ensure bespoke resolution strategies. He thanked the Banadir Regional Administration and the UNDP for their joint efforts and highlighted the importance of proper data utilisation for informed leadership decision-making, advocating for a strategy rooted in data analytics for conflict resolution in Somalia.
