(11/11/23) MOGADISHU – In a targeted operation on Saturday, Mawisley forces detained Abbas Garoobshe, a key Al-Shabaab officer, in the Eeldher district of the Galgaduud region. The operation, described as well-planned and successful by military media sources, marks a blow to the militant group’s activities in Galmudug.
Garoobshe, known for his influence in the Eeldher district, was a high-priority target in the ongoing efforts to combat Al-Shabaab. His arrest is expected to disrupt the group’s operations and diminish its presence in Somalia.
Additionally, the operation resulted in the death of another officer, known as Ilkacase. Accused of causing disturbances and unrest in Galmudug, Ilkacase’s elimination has been welcomed by local residents, who have long suffered from his actions.
This latest action forms part of a series of operations conducted by Mawisley forces in collaboration with the Somali National Army, aimed at regaining control of the Galgaduud Region. Despite the challenges, these forces have been instrumental in liberating several areas from Al-Shabaab control.
The ongoing conflict in the central regions of Somalia continues as the government and allied forces intensify their efforts against Al-Shabaab. The group, known for its insurgency tactics, has been a persistent threat in the region, but recent operations have significantly weakened its grip.
