(10/11/23) MOGADISHU – On Thursday in Riyadh, Somalia and Saudi Arabia signed a pivotal cooperation agreement, signifying a major enhancement in their diplomatic relations. The agreement, signed by Abshir Omar Haruse, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, celebrates a significant advancement in the relationship between the two countries.
This development comes shortly after the Somali Cabinet of Ministers approved the agreement, emphasising security cooperation as a key component. The prime minister’s office of Somalia has confirmed this focus, noting the mutual commitment to collaboration in security matters.
The agreement paves the way for a deeper connection between Somalia and Saudi Arabia, enabling institutions from both nations to independently enter into mutual understandings and cooperative agreements. This move is seen as a strategic step towards enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in areas vital for national and regional stability.
Saudi Arabia has long been a stalwart ally of Somalia, providing assistance in economic and humanitarian spheres. This latest agreement is a reinforcement of the strong ties that exist between the two nations and highlights the importance of Saudi Arabia’s role in Somalia’s ongoing development and stability efforts.
