(07/11/23) MOGADISHU — The Somali government has finalised a key agreement with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to enhance the nation’s telecommunications sector.
In a communiqué from Somalia’s Ministry of Telecommunications, it was revealed that an agreement had been signed with the ITU aimed at advancing the development and modernization of Somalia’s telecommunications infrastructure.
According to the release, “The accord outlines a cooperative venture between the ITU and the Ministry, encompassing the expansion of telecommunications, information and communication technology (ICT), the establishment of digital policies, the governance of digital skills, capacity enhancement, improvement of infrastructural connectivity, and fostering reliable usage of digital services.”
The Minister of Telecommunications and Technology, Jama Hassan Khalif, signed the document on behalf of Somalia, while the ITU’s commitment was confirmed by the signature of Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau.
