(26-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Fahad Yassin, the former director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), has raised significant concerns about the recent maritime agreement between Muse Bihi of Somaliland and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. In a critical statement posted on X (Twitter) on Friday, Yassin has implicated the governments of Djibouti and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for potentially having prior knowledge and involvement in this agreement.

Known for his forthright and often contentious views, Yassin likened the situation to “Get Robbed by an Enemy and Get Aided by Another Enemy.” This bold metaphor underscores the severity of the agreement’s potential impact on Somalia’s geopolitical position.

Yassin, in his capacity as the former intelligence chief, has declared his intention to delve deeper into this issue through a series of essays. The two essays bearing the title “Get Robbed by an Enemy and Get Aided by Another Enemy” are set to shed light on the complex dynamics and interactions of regional powers in this scenario.

In his prior essays, Yassin has been vocal in offering strategic guidance to the current Somali government under President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, especially concerning Ethiopia’s regional influence. The essays he plans to release are expected to provide deeper insights into the roles and motivations of Djibouti and the UAE in the context of this maritime agreement.

Yassin emphasises the necessity for accurate information, comprehensive understanding, and decisive action in matters concerning national importance. He has critiqued the current handling of the maritime agreement, citing fear and indecision, which he believes could undermine both private and public interests in Somalia.
