(24-01-24) HELSINKI (Halqabsi News) —The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the reappointment of Suldaan Said Ahmed as the Special Envoy for Peace Mediation in the Horn of Africa. This decision marks a continued commitment by Finland to address the complex challenges in the region.
Said Ahmed, who previously served in this role from 2022 to 2023, was appointed by Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto. His reappointment reflects Finland’s longstanding involvement and bilateral relations with several countries in the Horn of Africa. The region, currently grappling with political and armed conflicts, is also facing its worst drought in decades.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen highlighted the importance of peaceful conflict resolution in Finnish foreign policy. “Resolving conflicts peacefully has always been an aim of Finnish foreign policy. Said Ahmed’s extensive networks are a great asset in our work for stability in the region,” he stated.
