(02-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali National Army carried out a security operation against terrorist groups in the Lower Shabelle Region as the country entered a crucial phase of eliminating the activities of insurgency groups, State Media Sonna reported.
The Somali Army’s elite Gorgor wing undertook the operation in several settlements within the Awdheegle district of the expansive region in their hunt for members of Al-Shabab, killing several militants during the bloody encounter.
The army, which was specifically targeting exclusive terrorist cells in the region, further hunted town hideouts at Sham-Garre village at a time when members of Al-Shabaab were regrouping for a terrorist mission.
Reports indicated that a local Al-Shabab leader at Shaam-Gare, known as Saleban Dhilow, was seriously injured during the operation. The operation continues as the army combs the entire region.
