(04 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Cabinet of Ministers of Somalia has appointed Abdullahi Mohamed (Sanbalolshe), as the director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA). This decision was made at the Cabinet’s regular meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Internal Security.
Sanbalolshe, who brings a wealth of experience to the position with a background that includes roles as Minister, Member of Parliament, Ambassador, and two previous stints as the Director of NISA, steps into the role at a crucial period for Somalia. The country is currently navigating a political crisis, primarily due to amendments to the constitution.
“The Council of Ministers, at its seventh meeting today, has ratified the proposal by the Ministry of Internal Security to appoint Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbalolshe) as the Director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency,” said a statement released following the meeting.
The Cabinet also expressed its appreciation for Mr. Mahad Mohamed Salad, the outgoing NISA Director, acknowledging his service to the nation. Salad, who took office on May 26, 2022, following President Hassan Sheikh’s re-election, has resigned to pursue political ambitions in Galmudug, where he is a candidate in the upcoming leadership elections.
