(30-05-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Islamic State’s Somali branch has claimed responsibility for a deadly mine explosion at a military checkpoint in Mogadishu’s Dayniile district on Tuesday. In an online statement, the group claimed the attack killed at least two soldiers and injured four others.
This attack is part of an ongoing campaign by ISIS to target Somali security forces and government personnel. While Somali officials have not yet commented on the ISIS claims, the group is known to operate covertly in Mogadishu and has a strong presence in the Bari region’s mountainous areas in Puntland State.
ISIS has been expanding its territory in Somalia and frequently clashes with Al-Shabaab. The security situation in Mogadishu remains tense as security forces continue their efforts to combat the persistent threat of insurgency from both groups.
