An Al-Shabaab militant surrendered to local Ma’awisley forces in the southern Mudug region on Wednesday morning. The militant, identified as Mowlid Buulle Adan Barrow, also known as Saifullah in Al-Shabaab circles, handed himself over to local fighters in Gabdhaale area near Qararow settlement. He surrendered to Ma’awisley forces led by a local commander identified as Gurey Nur, accompanied by senior Galmudug military officers. Galmudug security forces later transferred him to Wisil District in southern Mudug to hand him over to the relevant security agencies for questioning.
A recent uptick in joint SNA and local forces operations in southern Mudug has resulted in an increase in Al-Shabaab defections in the region, with the frequency of such defections maintaining its tempo in recent months.
