Galmudug leader Ahmed Abdi Kariye ‘Qoorqoor’ is expected to embark on a trip today to Galgaduud’s Laandheer area, the epicentre of deadly clan clashes in recent days. President Qoorqor is scheduled to bolster peace efforts to end the conflict and bring the feuding clans to the negotiating table.
The clan conflict in Laandheer area, which lies between Abudwak and Herale districts in Galgaduud region, has resulted in the death of dozens of people and a larger number of injuries.
The fighting is between two clan militias fighting over pastoral and grazing land. It is the first time the two clans have confronted each other in the area. A Galmudug government-level committee is engaged in handling the situation and is on the ground.
