Somalia’s Deputy Police Chief, Brigadier General Zakia Hussen, has been relieved of her duties. In her farewell statement, she emphasised that leadership is cyclical and that national defence remains paramount. Reflecting on her tenure, she highlighted her achievements, which include nearly six years of high-level service under two Presidents, three Prime Ministers, three Ministers of Security, and three Police Chiefs. She spearheaded the implementation of the 991 hotline, helped create a special team of 50 female soldiers, and established the ILA WADAAG FORUM, which bridges the police and community.
General Zakia expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with various leaders and implement a number of police-related projects. She noted the transformation of the police force from one operating in fear to one that takes pride in its work and fosters community accountability. She thanked those who supported her in achieving these successes and addressed those who viewed her as an obstacle, encouraging them to step forward. She also extended a warm welcome to her successor, Gen. Abdalla Abdalla Mohamed, who will be taking over her responsibilities.
