(13 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – In a major victory for Somali security forces, two foreign members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group were captured in the Farlibah area of Hiran region. A joint force of government troops and local “Mawiisley” militia carried out the successful operation.
A Somali man who recently defected from Al-Shabaab, taking advantage of the government’s amnesty program, played a key role in the operation. He provided crucial information that led to the arrest of the two foreign fighters. All three men are now in the custody of the National Army in Beledweyne.
Farlibah Governor Ahmed Adan Hassan lauded the operation, praising the bravery and cooperation of the security forces and the Somali defector. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing its fight against Al-Shabaab in the region.
Hiran has witnessed significant progress in the fight against Al-Shabaab, with the group losing ground in recent months. The combined efforts of government forces and local militias have been crucial in pushing back the militants and liberating key areas. This latest operation sends a strong message that Somalia is determined to root out terrorism and bring peace and stability to the country.
