(13 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – In a press conference held today, Mr Salah Hassan Omar (Salah Arab), the spokesperson for the Banadir regional administration, revealed that the Mogadishu Municipality apprehended over 300 individuals diagnosed with serious infectious diseases, including HIV and Hepatitis B and C.
The Health Department of the Local Government successfully identified these individuals, some of whom were knowingly working in public spaces despite their diagnoses. “This posed a significant threat to the safety of Somali citizens,” stated Salah Arab.
Among those arrested, 35 were diagnosed with HIV, with 31 being Somali nationals and 4 foreigners. An additional 300 individuals were found to have Hepatitis B and C, diseases known for their rapid transmission.
The four foreigners diagnosed with HIV have been deported back to their countries of origin. Furthermore, authorities arrested a restaurant owner who was harbouring a foreigner diagnosed with HIV within his establishment.
Salah Arab concluded the press conference with a stern warning to business owners, emphasizing the necessity of obtaining medical certificates for themselves and their employees. He stressed the importance of acquiring health cards from the Mogadishu Municipality.
