(18 Aug 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A major operation targeting Al-Shabaab positions in the outskirts of Burhakaba district is currently underway. Reports indicate that South West Darwish forces and local militias have inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabaab fighters in the Jame’a village area, approximately 25 kilometres from Burhakaba.
The Somali Ministry of Defence has confirmed the ongoing operation, stating that Al-Shabaab fighters remain under siege and have suffered substantial losses.
Commander Sandheere Hassan Adan, leading the Darwish forces, affirmed the operation’s success in targeting Al-Shabaab positions. This offensive has escalated tensions in the region, following recent successful operations by the Somali National Army against Al-Shabaab in the neighbouring Bakool region. These efforts, focusing on the strategic Hudur-Qura Jome road previously under militant control, highlight the government’s determination to counter Al-Shabaab’s influence and restore stability.
The ongoing operations in Bay and Bakool regions underscore the Somali government’s commitment to combating Al-Shabaab’s presence and ensuring the safety and security of its people.
