(08 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – During his visit to Huawei’s headquarters in China, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud encouraged the global tech giant to expand its role in Somalia’s growing digital economy. He emphasised that Somalia’s streamlined Investment Law now facilitates foreign investments and urged Huawei to be a key player in the country’s digital infrastructure development.
Accompanying the President were senior officials, including the Minister of Communication and Technology, Mohamed Adam Moalim Ali, Minister of Energy and Water, Abdullahi Bidhan Warsame, and Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Adan. The officials emphasised Somalia’s advancements and challenges in the ICT sector and sought further engagement with Huawei to support national development goals.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his excitement at seeing Huawei’s technological achievements and looked forward to the company’s contribution to a more digitalised Somalia. He emphasised the importance of ICT in Somalia’s future, stating that its development could significantly enhance the country’s economic and social growth. He called on Huawei to participate in the reconstruction and digitalisation of Somalia by leveraging its vast capabilities in the ICT field to help attract more investment and improve the lives of the Somali people.
