(22 Oct 2024) BAIDOA (Halqabsi News) – Somali governmental bodies responsible for reviewing the provisional constitution have launched a series of stakeholder consultations in Baidoa, focusing on Articles 5 to 9. The Independent Constitutional Review and Implementation Commission, the Parliamentary Constitutional Monitoring Committee, and the Federal Ministry of Justice are spearheading this effort.
The consultations aim to gather input from local authorities and citizens on proposed amendments to key areas of the constitution, including federalism, executive powers, and judicial reforms. Officials from South West State, alongside women and youth representatives, have played a pivotal role in shaping these discussions.
“This process is essential for ensuring the constitution reflects the aspirations of all Somalis,” said Mohamed Hassan, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. The active participation of local communities is seen as crucial to ensuring that the reforms address the governance needs of the country.
The consultations, already held in Dhusamareb and Galkaio in Galmudug, will soon extend to other federal member states before the proposed amendments are presented to the federal parliament for discussion.
