(21 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali Embassy in Yemen has successfully repatriated 157 Somali refugees who had been enduring harsh conditions in the war-torn country. The group, made up of men, women, and children, had been stranded for an extended period, facing severe health challenges and living in precarious circumstances.
The repatriation mission was the result of joint efforts between the Somali embassy and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The refugees departed from the city of Aden, a region deeply affected by conflict.
Abdikarim Nasir Said, Somalia’s travel coordinator in Yemen, addressed the refugees at the port before their departure. He expressed his relief and gratitude for their safe return and commended the efforts of the President, Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNHCR, and the Yemeni government for their vital roles in ensuring the repatriation.
