(06 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Office of the Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia for Stabilisation and Civilian Protection, led by Special Envoy Omar Hashi, convened a key meeting in Kismayo with security stakeholders on Saturday. The gathering included officers from the Somali National Army (SNA) based in Jubaland, Jubaland’s paramilitary forces commanders, and officials from the Jubaland Intelligence and Security Agency (JISA).
The agenda was to enhance collaboration between security forces and local stakeholders to bolster stabilisation efforts in newly liberated areas from extremist groups (NRAs). Participants also focused on improving civilian protection and promoting long-term peace, security, and regional development.
Col. Iman Elman, a top SNA female commander, attended the meeting virtually, providing an update on ongoing military offensives and the support the SNA delivers to local communities. She emphasised the success of integration efforts through Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), which has played a key role in strengthening ties between the military and local communities, contributing to regional stability.
The Special Envoy has been engaging with the Jubaland administration in recent days to address stabilisation and civilian protection, as the region steps up its anti-Al-Shabaab operations, leading to the liberation of new areas from the group.
