(09 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Macallin Abdulle, met with Catie Lott, the head of the USAID office in Somalia, and her team to discuss strategies aimed at improving disaster relief efforts and strengthening government agencies’ capabilities.
The discussions focused on enhancing SoDMA’s relief initiatives, grant monitoring, and securing funding for resilience projects. Both sides emphasized the importance of forming small alliances to support vulnerable individuals and prevent poverty within communities.
The meeting also highlighted the need for the Somali government to directly receive foreign donations intended for beneficiaries, alongside the critical task of enhancing the capacity of various government agencies to address existing gaps in disaster management.
This meeting follows a recent agreement with Somalia by U.S. Ambassador Richard H. Riley, who highlighted that over $1.2 billion in U.S. assistance was provided to Somalia this fiscal year, covering development, economic, security, and humanitarian aid.
