(02 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Speaker of Somalia’s Upper House, Mohamed Abdi Hashi, on Sunday announced the official closure of the chamber’s 5th session, in accordance with Article 74(4) of the Provisional Federal Constitution.
In a statement addressed to senators, Speaker Hashi confirmed that the session concluded on 1 December, 2024, after meeting the constitutional requirement of holding at least two regular sessions per year, each lasting a minimum of four months.
He added that the 6th session of the Upper House will commence on 2 February 2025, urging all senators to return from recess by the set date.
The announcement follows a one-month extension of the working schedule for the two Houses of Parliament, granted at the request of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Originally set to begin its recess in early November, Parliament remained in session until yesterday to finalise key legislation, including legislation related to elections.
