(21 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia’s police chief has called for heightened security measures across the country as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, Commander of the Somali Police Force, urged security forces to increase vigilance during a weekly security briefing at police headquarters in Mogadishu.
He met with senior officials from various divisions, including the Banadir regional police, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Counterterrorism Unit, and the Inspectorate Department. The meeting focused on assessing the security situation and enhancing operational strategies.
General Abdullahi commended the officers for their dedication and instructed them to intensify efforts to ensure public safety. He emphasized the need for heightened vigilance during Ramadan, a period that has sometimes seen an increase in attacks by extremist groups.
He also appealed for public cooperation. “The role of citizens is crucial in maintaining security. I urge everyone to support law enforcement and report any suspicious activities,” he said.
The Somali government has been increasing security measures nationwide to counter threats from Al-Shabab and other groups.
