(21 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somali government forces, supported by local militias, say they have liberated the village of Dabagalo in the Mudug region from Al-Shabab control for the first time.
The joint forces raided Al-Shabab positions in the village overnight, officials said. Military officials confirmed that six militants, including senior commanders, were killed.
Somalia’s Ministry of Defence said the village was now under the full control of the Somali National Army (SNA) and local forces. “The Somali National Army and local forces have liberated Dabagalo village in Mudug region from Al-Shabab terrorists…,” the ministry said in a statement.
Dabagalo had reportedly been a stronghold for the militants, used as a base for extortion and attacks in the region.
Security forces are securing the area and continuing to pursue any remaining militants, officials said.
The reported liberation of Dabagalo is a significant development in efforts to restore stability to the Mudug region and weaken Al-Shabab’s hold on central Somalia.
