The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), has reinstated 15 lawmakers who had been barred from attending parliamentary sessions during the sixth session of the House.
The MPs were initially suspended following a November 27 incident in Parliament last year. Urging them to toe the line, the Speaker reminded the lawmakers to respect the national constitution and adhere to parliamentary rules. Among those reinstated is MP Hassan Abdi Ismail (Firimbi), who had been suspended for getting into a scuffle with a security officer at the parliamentary headquarters.
Some of the reinstated MPs were hit with penalties, including salary cuts and session bans after being accused of disrupting quorum formation and flouting parliamentary procedures.
