Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, currently in Bosaso, on Sunday received the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, and his delegation at his office. A press release from the Puntland presidency confirmed that President Deni welcomed the UN envoy and his team during their official visit to Puntland.
“President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, met today with the UN Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, along with his delegation. Several members of the Puntland government also attended the discussions,” the statement read.
The UN commended Puntland for ramping up its counterterrorism operations and its determined push to root out ISIS militants from the Al Miskat mountains. The meeting also touched on broader security issues, ongoing development and humanitarian projects in Puntland, and Somalia’s overall situation, according to the statement.
