(20 Apr 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Heavy fighting took place between Somali security forces and Al-Shabab militants in Ceelasha Biyaha, near Mogadishu, after the group launched a night attack on Sunday involving explosives.
The assault began with explosions targeting military and intelligence positions, followed by heavy gunfire lasting several hours. Casualties have been reported.
Security forces conducted clearance operations this morning in parts of Ceelasha Biyaha, which is located along the Mogadishu-Afgooye corridor. The attack follows several days of Al-Shabab activity in the area, including the disabling of streetlights. Similar incidents were recently reported in Lafoole and Hawo Abdi.
The renewed Al-Shabab activity near the capital has caused concern, with analysts warning of a serious threat from Al-Shabab’s resurgence in Lower and Middle Shabelle.
