(16 May 2025) HIIRAAN (Halqabsi News) – Local Macawiisley forces in Hiiraan launched a targeted overnight operation in villages near Halgan district, killing at least four Al-Shabaab militants, officials confirmed Friday.
The offensive focused on the villages of Eel Dheer and Halaalaay, where the militants were reportedly regrouping. According to local commanders, the assault was successful, forcing surviving fighters to flee westward across the Shabelle River.
“These militants were planning attacks. We struck first. Four of them were killed, and the rest retreated in disarray,” one officer told local media, describing those killed as senior figures within the group, though names were not disclosed.
The raid follows rising concerns about Al-Shabaab movements east of the Shabelle River, prompting fears of renewed offensives in the region. Residents in Buulaburde and Halgan have reported increased militant activity in recent weeks.
Security analysts say the swift response by community defence forces has disrupted Al-Shabaab’s momentum in the area, with operations ongoing to secure vulnerable settlements.
