(07 June 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) –The Federal Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has announced that more than 40 members of the Al-Shabaab militant group, including senior commanders, were killed in a meticulously planned aerial operation carried out today in Ceel-Hareeri, Hiraan region.
Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu on Friday, Minister Fiqi said the operation was jointly conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA), the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), and international partners supporting Somalia’s counter-terrorism efforts.
The operation, which specifically targeted a known Al-Shabaab hideout, was executed precisely as planned, destroying vehicles and killing militants gathered at the location, according to a statement from the Federal Government.
Among the confirmed dead were Abuu Anas, previously known as Al-Shabaab’s Head of Logistics and Transport, and Mohamed Ahmed (Xerow), a regional commander of the group. Two other high-profile operatives, Nuur Cabdi Rooble (Nuunuule), responsible for operations in Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, Mudug, and Galgaduud, and Jeylaani, a top commander of Al-Shabaab field units, were seriously injured.
Authorities believe these individuals were among the masterminds behind a wave of suicide attacks and deadly assaults in central Somalia, particularly in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
The government hailed the success of the operation, which it described as a major blow to the terror group’s leadership and planning networks. NISA was reported to have played a critical role in the intelligence and execution phase of the raid.
While the number of confirmed militant casualties stands at over 40, Somali officials say the toll could rise further as assessments continue on the ground. The Ministry of Defence said updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating Al-Shabaab entirely, with continued support from the Somali people and international allies. It described the militant group as a persistent threat to national security and the values of peaceful Islam
