(05 June 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – At least three mortar shells struck the Halane base in Mogadishu early on Thursday morning, with impacts reported both within the compound and in the adjacent Wadajir district, according to security sources and local residents.
The barrage, occurring shortly after dawn, was reportedly felt across several districts of the capital. Two shells are said to have landed inside the heavily fortified Halane compound – which houses foreign diplomatic missions and United Nations offices – whilst a third hit a residential area in Wadajir.
Security forces promptly initiated operations to determine the origin of the shelling. The attack caused disruption to early morning life but reportedly led to no significant damage at the nearby Aden Adde International Airport. An air raid siren was briefly sounded as a precaution.
The militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Somali authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding casualties or the extent of the damage.
This incident occurs amidst intensified fighting in the Shabelle regions, where Somali government forces, supported by international air power, are engaged in joint offensives against Al-Shabaab.
