(21 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia’s Defence Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Yaşar Güler, in Ankara, focusing on strengthening military cooperation.
The meeting, held at Turkey’s Ministry of Defence, covered counter-terrorism efforts and the training of the Somali National Army (SNA).
Mr. Nur expressed gratitude for Turkey’s support in Somalia’s fight against terrorism, describing Ankara’s assistance as crucial to stabilizing the country. He also acknowledged Turkey’s commitment to helping Somalia build its defence capabilities.
Mr. Güler reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to strengthening military cooperation and security support for Somalia. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to counter shared security threats and enhance the operational readiness of Somali forces.
The discussions are expected to lead to a closer strategic partnership between the two countries, with a focus on military training, counter-terrorism operations, and regional security.
