President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday received a high-level Omani delegation at the Presidential Palace, led by Eng. Said Hamood Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Technology of Oman. The visit, the largest Omani delegation to Somalia in three decades, aims to explore investment opportunities and enhance economic cooperation between the two nations. Given Oman’s significant progress in infrastructure development, the discussions focused on leveraging this experience for collaboration. The meeting also underscored the historical and cultural ties between Somalia and Oman, built on longstanding trade and strong people-to-people connections.
As part of the visit, Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, MP Mahamud Aden Gesod, welcomed the delegation for discussions on Somalia’s port infrastructure, particularly the Hobyo Port project. The Omani government expressed keen interest in financing and modernising strategic ports, reinforcing its commitment to boosting regional trade and economic growth. Somali MPs, and business leaders participated in the discussions.
